Happy Earth Day! We donate a percentage of Hardin Herpetologica’s sales to numerous conservation and humanitarian projects around the world, but we also believe while it’s important to think globally, we should act locally. I also volunteer for a NC river association as a site steward along a local healthy watershed. We coordinate litter cleanups, trail maintenance, controlled burns, and invasive species treatments. I celebrated today’s holiday with a team of ecologists killing scores of the invasive fig buttercup (Ficaria verna) plant (cute name, nasty invasive weed!)

A quick year in review from 2025, I was lucky enough to captive produce some amazing new species and new variants of classics. We observed many interesting behaviors in captivity, and the wild, when we herped Australia’s Outback and Scandinavia during Midsommar. After many failed attempts, we finally hatched Asian mountain tortoises (Manouria emys) and are hoping many tarantulas will give us eggsacs this year!
